Requirements for an Engineering Thesis
This information is obsolete: Please visit our current information page.
An engineering thesis mostly focuses on some artifact (typically software) to be built. Students demonstrate their capabilities, as required by the degree rules and regulations, by building and evaluating the artifact.
Specific content varies by project, but most engineering theses will contain the following chapters:
- Purpose of artifact
- Requirements for artifact
- Evaluation scheme for requirements
- Architecture and design
Please note that the evaluation scheme should be defined before you begin implementation (we understand that some processes are iterative, but you should at least try). This avoids evaluating only the successful aspects of the work. For us, partial achievements or failures are also of interest and part of an honest evaluation (and they won’t hurt a student’s grade either).
