Abstract: Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) is widely used in any kind of company. This ranges from using open source desktop and applications to integrating FOSS component into commercial products. An increasing number of companies even contributes to or initiates community open source projects. While using desktop and server applications typically doesn’t cause problems, companies face the challenge to ensure license compliance for FOSS used in products and any published code. We will take a look at governance models companies typically establish to reduce risks associated with the use of FOSS.
Speaker: Martin Helmreich was one of the first students graduating from the OSR group. He wrote his diploma thesis on best practices for commercial adoption of open source components. Afterwards, he worked three and a half years as consultant for FOSS Management at BearingPoint. Since late 2014 he is responsible for FOSS Management at BSH Home Applicanes (http://www.bsh-group.com/), the European market leader for home appliances.
