Abstract: Software updates resolve shortcomings within already released products. Technological advances provided for a vast frequency increase of such improvements. Large and diverse installation populations require the support of patch delivery by adequate utility systems. Such a software update system (henceforth abbreviated as SUS) is regarded a key element in achieving high penetration of patches. By thus being a primary driver in securing software vulnerabilities, as well as by causing considerable hosting requirements, well-made design and implementation choices of one’s SUS can have continuous effect on market success.
