Abstract: What does a software architect actually do — and how do you become one? This talk takes you inside the role of a software architect at Siemens Healthineers, one of the world’s leading medical technology companies. We explore how architects shape large-scale systems, navigate regulatory constraints, and make decisions that outlast any single sprint. You’ll get an honest look at the day-to-day work: from whiteboard sessions and architecture decision records to platform migrations and cross-team alignment. We’ll also walk through the structured training curriculum at SHS-CT — including hands-on architecture katas, mentoring, and a community of practice — so you can see exactly what your growth path looks like.

Speaker: Walter Stocker is a Senior Software Architect for Post-Processing Applications at SHS DI CT. With over 15 years of experience in the healthcare sector and more than 20 years in software engineering, Walter brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role. Since 2022, he has also been a dedicated trainer and assessor in the SHS SW Curriculum for the Software Architect (SWA) program. Walter is passionate about software development and programming, constantly seeking to innovate and improve. In his free time, he enjoys running, reading books, playing computer games, and spending quality time with his family and friends.
