Abstract: Developing safety critical systems is regulated by standards and laws that often describe strict V-Model approaches. This is covered well by conventional development processes. The growing internet of things (IoT) enforces shorter and shorter release cycles in order to fix security vulnerabilities in time. The answer to that challenge is agile development. On a shallow glance the speed of agile development and the safeness of the conventional one seems to be incompatible. The talk focuses on how to bring those worlds together. Impediments and typical mistakes that occur in daily work and how to cope with them are discussed briefly.

Speaker: Ralf Spengler grew up in Nürnberg. He received his Master’s degree from FAU where he studied Molecular Science for 4 semesters, and thereafter switched to Computer Science. During and after this time, he worked for HEITEC AG in Erlangen as a Software Engineer. Since 2018, he works for ESE – Engineering und Software-Entwicklung GmbH in Erlangen. During his professional life, he developed and tested software in agile teams for different branches as industrial automation, automotive and health care. A large part of the projects was for safety critical products. With his high affinity to automated testing (ISTQB certified Test Manager) and process knowledge, he supports agile transformation.
