Abstract: Inner source is the use of open source software development practices within an organization. In inner source, an organization still develops proprietary software but internally opens up its development. This talk gives an overview of key mechanisms of inner source, introduces the concept of contribution-flow to measure inner source collaboration, and discusses selected elements and practices of inner source on the example of DATEV. It closes with an outlook on unresolved research challenges.

Speaker: Dr.-Ing. Maximilian Capraro is a software engineer at DATEV focusing on building and sustaining inner source practices. He serves on the board of the Inner Source Commons Foundation, is alumnus of Erlangen university’s Open Source Research group, and developed the contribution-flow method – the first method for measuring inner source collaboration. His interests include development process analytics, inner source governance including legal and taxation aspects, and many other things around inner source, open source, and software engineering.
